Pittsburg State University back on campus Fall 2020
We are excited to have students on campus next week, but it will take discipline and sacrifice from all of us to make sure campus stays open.
That includes avoiding crowded locations and finding new ways to socialize that allow for social distancing. Our goal is not only to open, but to stay open for the duration of the fall semester. While we fully understand there is no way to remove all risk, we will continue our reopening plans using these guiding principles:
- Do what we can to maintain the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff
- Maintain transparency with thorough and frequent communication as the situation evolves
- Provide high-quality experiences for our students that preserve progress toward a degree
Pittsburg State University and the Pittsburg community have a proud tradition of welcoming and supporting international students. It's part of our community's history which, to this day, is known as the "Little Balkans" for the number of nationalities - French, German, Italian, Slovenian, Swedish, eastern European and more - which helped found the city of Pittsburg.
Our international students who return to their countries proudly carry our name and reputation on the world's stage. Pitt State boasts more than 400 international students from 40 countries, and our international student body graduation rate is nearly 100 percent.

This season, over 75 of our international students are participating in fall sports! Athletics gives international students the opportunity to make connections with local students, become a part of our greater community, and learn important soft skills like leadership and teamwork. Today we offer more than 50 teams at many different levels, and all students are encouraged to get fit and have fun by joining a team—whether they are new to a sport or a potential New England champion. Many of our coaches also serve as faculty, which allows them to teach and coach through a holistic lens.
